AI-MI Marks Milestone with Launch of New NVIDIA-Powered Computing Cluster

Posted: May 5, 2026

At the beginning of April, Artificial Intelligence Materials Institute (AI-MI) celebrated a major milestone with the ribbon cutting of its new NVIDIA-powered computing cluster –an event made even more meaningful by the presence of a program officer from the National Science Foundation (NSF)– AI-MI’s major funding partner.

This new infrastructure dramatically expands AI-MI’s capacity to support high-impact research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and materials science. Designed to enable rapid, on-desk development, the cluster delivers powerful AI computing resources to researchers across the AI-MI network, accelerating discovery and opening new avenues for tackling complex materials challenges.

The event brought together leadership, faculty, partners, students and postdocs, including Deans across Cornell whose continued support is instrumental to the AI-MI’s community growth. Special recognition goes to the IT Team at the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science for their expertise in deploying and maintaining the system.

This milestone is a testament to the collective effort of a broad, multi-institutional community committed to driving the next generation of breakthroughs in AI-enabled materials research.
