AI-MI director Eun-Ah Kim was a speaker at this event:

The Physics of John Hopfield

November 12 – November 14

John Hopfield was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.” This recognition presents a unique opportunity to revisit Hopfield’s signature question: “Now what?”

To explore this question, we are convening a two-part event that brings together a diverse community of researchers whose work spans Hopfield’s wide-ranging interests.

November 12 and 13: The first two days will feature a workshop titled The Physics of John Hopfield: Learning and Intelligence, focusing on recent developments at the intersection of AI, physics, cognitive science, and learning.

November 14: The final day will be a symposium titled The Physics of John Hopfield: Life and Matter, exploring Hopfield’s broader contributions beyond AI and learning—from solid state physics to molecular biology and neuroscience—and the recent work they continue to inspire.
