This week is National Postdoc Appreciation Week (September 21–25), and AI-MI is taking the occasion to thank the postdoctoral researchers working across the institute. Postdocs sit at the center of AI-MI’s mission — building the models, running the experiments, and bridging the machine learning and materials science halves of the institute’s research program. The week is also a fitting moment to note that the AI-MI Postdoctoral Fellowship is open for applications, with best consideration by October 15, 2026. The fellowship supports research in AI-driven materials discovery and is open to candidates with a PhD in theoretical or computational condensed-matter physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
